In the news

I received an email this morning through my Flickr account regarding one of my pictures.

A social news website journalist was compiling a story about some new fossils that have been discovered and they wanted to use one of my pictures in the story.

Obviously I allowed them top use the image as I feel that it is all good optimisation for me and my domains. The more inbound links to any of my domains helps.

Hence this is the reason why I have been so active on Flickr recently, yeah I bought a new camera and love taking pictures, but the end result of it all is increased visitors which in turn raises my profile slightly and generates ad revenue.

To help the visit counts along I occasionally post images here or on group pages with the main Flickr site. This allows people to view my pictures from the group page and then they can navigate to my personal account from there. Indeed the visit counts from Flickr has increased but also from other sources as there are now that many sites that pull data from the Flickr public streams, again establishing a back-link from these sites.

Another good source of traffic is from Twitter, often I will post a tweet with a link to an image that I have recently uploaded, this often results in numerous hits and comments on the page where the image is contained.

This may all sound a bit too much to the un-initiated but it really is a necessity when revenue is directly proportionate to page views.
